Bowes Museum

All of Class 1 enjoyed their visit to Bowes Museum. We were able to make our own peg dolls and also to explore the galleries and play with toys from the past. We made peg dolls ranging from soldiers to farm animals. All the children enjoyed the sticking and glueing. We played with toys from the past and the wind-up toys seemed to be the most popular. We had our lunch inside and everyone was ready to eat, some children were ready for lunch when we got off the bus! Everyone has a fun day and would like to thank our helpers for their support on this special day. We really think that visits out of school are an exciting, interesting and fun way to learn!

Book Corner Opening Ceremony.

We have had a makeover in our book corner in Class 1. Mr Eldridge has been buying us some new books and we have sorted them into themed boxes. The children have made a display of their work on "The Gruffalo" which looks really stunning. On Thursday Mr Eldridge came down to Class 1 to cut the ribbon and declare the corner open. Then the children shared some of our new books with the children from Class 3. We are really enjoying our books in Class 1. WE LOVE READING!

Class One Make a movie!

This is our first go at 'movie making' in class one. We hope to share other things with you as we build our skills up.

We were reading one of our favourite books "The Gruffalo". We decided to tell the story ourselves through character voices and actions. We have talked about different monsters and are now making up our own monsters. Popcorn at the ready! Enjoy the movie!

The Garage

In their outdoor provision this week the reception children have made their own garage. They made a ramp, an office with a desk, a petrol pump and a kitchen area. They added the different signs around the area. This work links in with our new topic on "Transport" where we are learning about different kinds of vehicles and pushes and pulls.

Gymnastics

On Wednesday we worked on our gymnastics in the hall with Mr Eldridge and Mrs Fothergill. In the previous sessions we have explored our movements on the floor and mats. How exciting this week it was time to go on the apparatus. We all enjoyed exploring movement at different heights. We learned how to use the apparatus safely. We hope you enjoy our photographs.

Football Friday

Last Friday the Reception children were able to use the school yard for their own football match. They have been enjoying playing football with Mr Ward in Nursery. They found there was not enough room for a full match so they moved to the yard. They enjoyed the space and goal scoring!

Week 7-27th February-2nd March 2012

This week we have worked together on telling stories from the Bible. We enjoy being the different characters and learning about the story. The Reception children enjoyed making their own dens outside using the different resources.

Week 6-20th-24th February 2012

The Reception children have enjoyed their learning outside this week. They were very interested in the men working on the road opposite school. This is great because we are learning about the different jobs people do. Perhaps we can explore these jobs more next week when we learn about jobs in Hawes.

Colour-Year 1

We have been making some of our own different colour displays. We searched for objects to put on our displays in pairs.We had to think carefully about where things would go on our display. We found out that bigger objects needed to go at the back. When we had finished our displays we took some photographs. |We were very proud of our hard work.

Shadows. 16th-20th January 2012

This week in Class 1 we have been learning about shadows. On Monday it was a really sunny so we were able to find shadows outside and make some of our own. We all had lots of fun trying to catch our own shadow! When we were back in class we made some of our own shadow puppet monsters, they were quite frightening!
